The Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand has made the following awardsEthelbeit A. W. Smith, for rescuing two boys from drowning at Kaikoura, certificate ; Harry Haydon, rescuing two persons from drowning at Lyttelton, letter of recommendation; Francis Stuart Putleen, rescuing boy from drowning at Sumner, framed certificate ; Mrs Niccol, rescuing persons from drowning in saltwater baths, Devonport, Auckland, on three occasions, silver medal and framed certificate; James Knowles Ginnion, for rescuing boy from drowning at Port Ahuriri, Napier, clasp for medal previously awarded ; Hugh Connor, rescuing child from drowning at Port Ahuriri, Napier, letter of commendation ; William Pool, aged 13, rescuing child from drowning, Akaroa harbor, framed certificate; Thomas William Flinn, rescuing man from drowning, 'Wellington, silver medal; Constable Oliphant, attempting to rescue boy from drowning, Napier, vellum certificate ; Constable Brookes, rescuing man from drowning at Ross, vellum certificate. The directors also decided to award a framed-in memo, certificate to the relatives of Nora Gilmore, aged 151 years, who sacrificed her life in attempting to rescue another girl from drowning at Devonport, Auckland, in March last. The secretary was instructed to write to the Mayor of Devonport, drawing attention to the cases at the saltwater baths there, and suggesting better provision be made for the safety of bathers.
