The prisoners recently taken by General lan Hamilton in the Harts River district are irreconcilable; they belong to the Vangyle commando. Colenbrander effected his capture by picqueting all sources whence the Boers drew water. He posted a detachment at Plykop, whither he drove the enemy, who had been almost foodless and waterless for days. The surrenderee included Commandant Bierman. BOER OFFICERS PREDICT PEACE IN MAY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 14. Boer officers in Portuguese camps have received private messages predicting tho early conclusion of an honorable peace in May. They expect to return in a month.
THIRTY BOER LEADERS BANISHED. THE TRADE WAR. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 15. Thirty additional Boer leaders have been banished, including Judge Kock. Mr Chamberlain afforded three experts representing engineering, textiles and soft goods industries special facilities to ascertain openings in South Africa, hoping to check German and American competition.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. Replying to inquiries, Mr Pilcher, Capetown, cabled to the acting-Premier that Delanney, of New Plymouth, and D. Gumming, of Wellington, are with their regiments, and well ; Lieutenant Lascelles, of Napier, is not quite so well ; Sergeant Walter Miller, Wellington, is improving ; Wm. Howard, Seventh Contingent, is progressing favorably ; Raynor, Seventh Contingent, has been transferred to Kitohener’s Horse.
