Napier, last night,

At tho Supremo Court to-day John Mattison and Wm. Milligan were found guilty of the theft of £ls from Phillip Coplestone at Woodville on the 21stApril, sentenas being deferred until Monday. The installation of the recently-elected Mayor, Mr F. W. Williams, took place this afternoon. The retiring Mayor, Mr J, C. McVay, who was the recipient of a handsomelyframed photographic shield containing the portraits of members of the Council and the municipal staff, as a memento of his term of office, and as a token of the appreciation in which his services to the town are held, was accorded a hearty reception, on rising to. make a short valedictory address, in which he reviewed the municipal work of the year. The new Mayor also briefly addressed the Council, assuring bis hearers that the interests of the borough would receive his best attention during the term he held office.
