NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, last night. The National Council of Women discussed the ethics of wago-earning and proposed the following resolution : “ That this Council is of opinion that in all olasses where men and women are engaged in the same work,' either in the employ of the Government or private individuals, equal wages should be paid for equal work.” The following resolutions were passed : —(1) “ That the sole qualification for an old age pension be 25 years’ residence, and a certified age of 65 years, and that the amount of the pension be increased to 10s a week; ” (2) “ That all sentences for serious offences should be decided as to duration by the reform of the criminal, and should be limited to the maximum penalty attached to the crime ; ” (3) 11 That women visiting justices be appointed to our prisons; ” “ That capital punishment be abolished.” , A paper on “Reform in Government" was read by Mrs Sheppard, of Christsiiuroh.
