Auckland last night. The valuations of the city properties, after passing through the Assessment Court. :.C now made up. From values as made up by the Valuer, the Court struck out £1285, but .£92 was added as the result of appeals by the Town Clerk. The values of the city property now total .£358.86-1. The valuations in 1901 were £349,715.
Nelson, last night. Mr John Armstrong, one of the members of the Nelson expedition, who arrived in the Wliithy on the sth November, 1841. died at Blenheim this evening, aged 83. He lived here till he retired from business, and leaves a large number of descendants.
At the meeting of the Waimca County Council to-day, it was resolved to apply to the Government to erect a cart-bridge, necessary to enable people to drive from Nelson to Hanmcr Springs ; also to urge the immediate construction of a joint railway and cart bridge across the Motueka river, giving access to and from Tadmor Valley.
Wellington, last night. Major Shepherd has been gazetted Sergeant-at-Arms.
PROTESTING RESIDENTS.

At a meeting of the residents of Bromley and neighborhood, where the plague hospital is established, a motion was passed protesting against the erectiou of a permanent contagious and infectious diseases hospital on any reserve in the district. THE PLAGUE PATIENT. Shields, the suspected plague patient, is very much better to-night. CHARITABLE AID BOARD. Invercargill, last night. The Southland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board comes out on the wrong side of the ledger by £420 this year, owing to building operations at Lome Farm. At the beginning of the year tbo credit balance was £1705. The rate to be levied this year was fixed at threepence, as against twopence last year. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. Mr E. Tanner, Hon. Secretary of the Southland Acclimatisation Society for 21 years, has retired, and was to-day elected a life member. The Society had a successful year, the chief trouble being to extend the hatching ponds, which the small supply of water inqkes difficult. It is probable that a hatchery will bo created elsewhere.
