NAPIER ABATTOIRS.

SUCCESSFUL OPENING CEREMONY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Napier, last night. The Napier abattoirs at Awatoto were formally opened this afternoon by the Mayor (Air John AlcVay), in the presence of the members of the Council, Alayor and Councillors of Hastings, Air A. L. D, Fraser, AI.H.R., Alessrs Gilrutb, Government Veterinarian,. Aliller, Stock Inspector, Hislop, Architect of the Abattoirs, and a large gathering of prominent citizens. Appropriate speeches were delivered by the Alayor, Alessrs Gilruth and J. H. Coleman, and the Alayor formally proclaimed the abattoirs open. Air Hislop, as the architect of the works, presented Air AlcVay with a gold key with an inscription engraved, as a momento of the occasion, and His Worship acknowledged the gift in suitable terms. The abattoirs cost the Napier Borough something like £5500, borrowed from the Government under the provisions of the Act, giving municipaities power to borrow for such a purpose. Tne buildings and appointments are of the most approved pattern, the arrangements for the cooling, killing, and inspection of stock being all that can be desired.
