finances, the Chairman said it was the first time they had ever spent up to their estimates. -Mr Johnston said tbit more work in the way of improvements had been done than was intended. They had spent over ±ll alii) in improvements. Mr Warren said originally they had only intended to spend i't.OO. Mr Johnston said that everything was in good order, and there would not he much expenditure about the hospital required this year. Mr Warren, for the Building Committee, reported that on the contract oir Herbert street cottage let to Mr Sheet, the painting was still to do. Mr Sheet said he would have that done

as soon as possible. It was necessary to have the street formed, so as to drain the properly. He moved that the Borough Council l:e written to, asking that body to have the street formed, so that the property could he drained. Mr Harding explained that the delays in painting could not well be avoided.

Mr Tuohy seconded !lie motion re writing to the Borough Council, which was carried. The Chairman proposed the re-elec-tion of Mr Harding as Treasurer. He said that that gentleman had given a great deal ol time to the affairs of the hospital, and he hoped would accept rp-election. Mr Johnston seconded the motion,

which was carried. Mr Harding, in reply, said that lie would continue to do .Bis best. He took a keen interest in the hospital, pud would continue to do so.

The Trustees then dealt with the es. timates for the year. The Chairman explained that the increased sum on ;the estimates for salaries was on account of tile extra patients, and the probability of the isolation ward being erected. Mr Johnston did not think the sum would be sufficient. They should have an experienced nurse for the ward. 'Hie Chairman said they could uot p fiord to jiay it. Mr Johnston said that tiiey could do so. In nursing they should not stint tlie service. Last year the nurses had been run off their legs at one time. The Chairman said for the other six months they had little 1.0 do. Mp Jphustpn said it required the slack season tp bpihl t! cm up for the busy time.

The Chairman: Well, it is for you, gentlemen, to decide. Messrs Harding and Warren agreed that the amount set down could not well be reduced. The item was adopted as set down, and then the other items were gone into.

Ip regard to the - isolation ward

sonic discussion eiisusd. The Chairman said the amount should be paid in a sum when required, and not in instalments month by month. Mr Warren : I move that the amount be struck out. The Chairman : I have never been in

favor of it, so would be with you there, My oninion always has been that it is a waste r of money. Mr Johnston : It amounts to this, that we cannot go back on what has been done.

Mr Tuohy : It seems to me that an arrangement has been made which we must stick to. Mr Harding : The Board undertakes to pay for the building. Tho Chairman ; And we put it up if they dp. Tho question arose as to whether the amount set down was sufficient, and it was agreed, Mr Warren dissenting, to increase the item by £3O. It was agreed, on the Chairman’s suggestion, that the money be asked for in two instalments.

In regard to the (tuilding vote, Mr Warren said they must remember that they were going to demand the money from two Councils who were already over their bank limit, a year behind. Tho Chairman and Mr Tuohy said it was the Ijoafcj t,|)qt (yqs fojrpjng them to put up the building. Mr Harding said the Trustees had not suggested that the building be put up; but they had agreed to allow the land and to supervise the erection. Plans had been approved and sent to them, and it was not for the Trustees to now object to go on. 1 Mr Warren proposed that the estimate be reduced by XIOO.

The Chairman : Any seconder ? Mr Harding : jf Me Warren shows how we can reduce it I would second it.

The amendment was not seconded, and the motion was carried. In the discussion of the furniture items, Mr Warren said that if they put all the items together, at that rate, the isolation ward would cost a thousand pounds. The Chairman : I know that, but some of these people who press it on do not seem to know it.

Air Warren said he had no objection to raise against the obtaining of neces-

sities.

After the various iterps had been eon sidered the estimates wore adopted.
