Naval reinforcements have landed at Port Nolloth, on the coast of Namnqualand, and have hurried inland towards Ookiep.
The Daily Telegraph reports that an emissary from Steyu and Scbulk Burgtr brought despatches to Utrecht connected with the peace negotiations.
The Standard's Durban correspondent states the proposal of Sir Albert Hime, Premier of Natal, that if the new territories were immediately annexed Natal might make her own terms of peace, is generally condemned by the new?papeis on tho ground that the Imperial Government is the only authority to discuss terms with the enemy. The Daily Express states that Lord Woiseley has returned from South Africa with pessimistic ideas owing to the obstinacy and ignorance of the Boers on the veldt.
Swayne’s flying column lias successfully raided the Eastern Somali tribes, capturing much stock. A promising goldfield was discovered in Yryheid and Utrecht districts.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The aetmg-Premier is advised as follows from South Africa :—A. L. 11. Way, of Christchurch (Eighth Contingent), is dangerously ill, having been injured internally at Vaalbauk on May 2nd by a rough fall from a horse. 11. E. Anslow (Wellington) and Cenlon (Oftiuaru), of the Ninth Contingent, are both ill, the former from dysentery, and the latter from rheumatic fever. There is no change in tho condition of Lieutenant Lascellos, of Napier. Tho present whereabouts of Cartill, formerly of Rimington’s Guides, is unknown. John McKay, Riverton (Seventh Contingent), and G. A. Fraser, Wellington (Sixth Contingent), are both convalescent. John Ashton, Dunedin (Seventh Contingent), has recovered and rejoined his regiment. John Considinc, Auckland (Seventh Contingent), is progressing favorably. Hugh McDonald (Eighth Contingent) and S. E. Whitta (Amuri) are both with their regiment and well.
