THE STOCK MARKET.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Limited, of Palmorston North, report as follows : Since last report we have held sales at Danevirke, Woodville, Pahiatua, and Palmerston North.
At Danevirke we had a fair entry of sheep and a couple of pens of cattle. Most of the lots changed hands, fat sheep and ewes in forward condition making
good prices. At Woodville we had a good yarding of both sheep and cattle also a line of 130 pigs of various ages anjl dimensions, the majority showing a distinot strain of blood from that grand' old sire Captain Cook, which made satisfactory figures. The attendance was large notwithstanding the howling wind, sleet, and rain. Business at auction was brisk, an improved demand for all classes of stiick existing, an almost total clearance being made.
At Pahiatua stock exceeded advertised numbers. Several pens of nice quality cattle were yarded, which met with keen competition, in fact the demand for all cattle was good, business under the hammer being brisk. With a few exceptions the sheep were of indifferent quality, and although the yarding was a heavy one for this time of the year, we succeeded in selling all but a couple of pens and mostly at auction, At Palmerston we had a good muster of sheep but cattle yarded in smaller supply than usual, no grown steers being yarded. Bidding at auction was not particularly brisk, but we managed to quit all the sheep with the exception of one line of lambs, and a few head of cattle.
