Excepting Hill, all indulged in hitting rathor than correct play. Hopkins and Duff impressed eye-witnesses favorably. Noble and Howell scorned to have increased their pace. Jones was absent, having gone to Brighton to rocupcrato. The umpires for tho fivo test matches wero yesterday settled by ballot as follows:—Hearn and Phillips at Birmingham, Richardson and l'itchmarch at Lords, Phillips and Richardson at Sheffield, Moss and Mycroft at Manchester, and Richardson and White at tho Oval. London, April 30. The Australian cricketers practised both before and after lunch. Jonee is still absent. The work was vory systematic. Each had ten minutes’ batting, all sharing tho bowling. Howell seemed in fine form with tho ball. Darling and Duff batted well. Owing to tho recent damage to his collarbone, Sanders did not bowl very long.
