The sea is the roughest it has been lor years, greatly delaying shipping. Many vessels, including three Union coastal steamers, are anchored in the harbor, waiting for the weather to moderate. All coaling operations on the south coast jetties have been stopped by the tremendous sea. Newcastle steamers are unable to enter, and are standing off, or have returned to Sydney. The steamer Aorangi was twenty-six hours behind the ordinary time in her trip from Brisbane. The steamer was lighting against mountainous seas during the whole way, and had to lay to for several hours off Sydney Heads be-

fore she ventured to enter the harbor. However, the steamer escaped without suffering much damage. The third olli. cer was knocked down by a sea that broke over the vessel. lie was somewhat severely injured. The mission steamer John Williams, which sailed for the Islands with a partly of missionaries on the 21sl of April, has returned to port. The vessel was considerably damaged by the storm. A native sailor had iiis arm dislocated.
