WELLINGTON NEWS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. Information has been received by the Cabinet which leads to the belief that the Agent-General will shortly be able to sign a contract with the Blue Star line for a steam service to South Africa from New Zealand. The Department of Agriculture has decided to discontinue the issuo of monthly reports on tho progress and prospect of the colony’s fruit crop. This stop has been taken owing to the apathy of fruit growers in sending in returns. The Cabinet has reappointed Mr Arthur Guiness to Victoria College Couucil. Ministers to-night decided to instruct the Agent-Goneral to close with the Blue Star Line for a South African steamer service, certain difficulties wfiich arose having since been removed. Cabinet decided to place a vote of £IOOO upon the Estimates as a contribution towards research in Antarctic. This sum is in connection with the despatch of the relief ship Morning, with stores, to the Discovery, now venturing in the Southern ice fields.
