REDUCTION OF RAILWAY FARES.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. Sir Joseph Ward informed a deputation that he expected the new Dunedin railway station to be finished in IS months from date. It would, he said, take 15 months to finish from the time of starting. To another deputation, which pressed for a reduction of passenger rates to Queenatown, Sir Joseph Ward said that a reduction upon long distance fares would bo made by tho Department. Before long there would be a permanent reduction, and so far as tho people of Dunedin were concerned it would enable them to go to the lakes for a sum, if not quite half of the present rates, very nearly so. That was the ordinary' daily reduction, and then of course there would be the uniform system of excursion fares that applied from time to time. Within the next few months ho would be able to announce what the permanent reduction on passenger fares would really be, and they would find it would be a very important thing for tho colony itself.
