For tho opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s Autumn Meeting favorable weather was experienced. About 2500 people wore present. The going was heavy after the recent rain, and in several instances the horses that got the best start prevailed. Tho Porirua stable was in good form. The sum of .£9503 was put through tho totalisator, which amount is £991 more than tho first day last year. Following aro tho results : Waiwctu Handicap: Abydos 1, Stepina 2, Rebel 3. Also started : Crusoe, Westguard, Ayrdale, Battleery, la, and Blaekwing. Won comfortably by three lengths. Time 1.32 1-5, div 3. £3 7s 6d and £2 10s 6d.

Maiden Hack: Exmoor 1, Ascension 2, Wind a. Scratched* Velocity, Descent, Volga, Kiltie, Kaiknkobo, Kuaha, and Ponotration. Won in a canter. Time 1.20, divs. £3 3s and £2 Cs.

Thompson Handicap: Ostiak 1, Cantoen 2, Hinetaura 8. Also started: Okoari, Halberdier, Jabber, Queen’s Guard, Glenaladale, Flcka, Fukir, Bowman, Terrapin, Tradewind, Shrapnel Shell, and Plaidio. Won easily by four lengths. Time 1.43 4-5; divs., £6 13s and £4 6s.
