A BIG SALARY,
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Wellington Harbor Board has resolved to raise the salary of its secretary and Engineer, Mr W. Ferguson, from £IOOO to £1750 per-annum, and to enter ‘into an undertaking to retain his services for five years. Mr Ferguson lately received an offer of - appointment at more than the latter figure. POST AND TELEGRAPHS, The post and telegraphic revenue for the quarter ended March 31st was £125,0-16, against £126,3-14 for the corresponding quarter of last year, NOXIOUS WEEDS, By Order.in-Council in the Gazette, wild turnip and oxeye daisy are included in the schedule of the Noxious Weeds Act, BIG BORROWING SCHEME. The City Council to-night decided to borrow £IO,OOO, in addition to the £50,000 already authorised, for a town hall. The Council also agreed to a greater Wellington scheme on .the lines already telegraphed, RAILWAY FARES, An alteration in the fares and rates on the Westland and Hurunui-BluH sections of the Government railways was gazetted .to-night. RELIEF FUND, On March 31 the Kaitangata relief fund showed a credit of £3251, During the year £432 was paid to sixteen beneficiaries, INEBRIATES’ INSTITUTIONS, Regulations under the Inebriates’ Institutions Act are gazetted. Buildings at North Harbor and Blueskin are to be institutions within the meaning of the Act,
