A detached portion of Colenbrander’s force were engaged by a superior body of the enemy in difficult country at Haeuertsberg, but they held their ground. Six British were killed and seventeen wounded. Colenbrander came in touch with the detached portion again. David Whitehead, of the Bth New Zealanders, has succumbed at Machavie from injuries received. Residont Magistrate’s Courts have been established in various districts in the Transvaal.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The London cable re Letts evidently refers to Trooper Ralph Letts, formerly of Hokianga, who joined the Sixth Contingent at Auckland. A brother of his named Roy went out with the sth Contingent, and has not been heard of since three months after his arrival at the Cape. Ralph Letts was captured by Boers once, but escaped.
