[(Per Press Association)/ ' WELLINGTON, last night. _ Forty-four applicants for teachers positions in the Boer concentration camps have been recommended by the Education Boards, out of 200 applicants. It has been officially explained, with reference to the irritation felt by the Auckland Board as to the method of selection, that the Auckland candidates chosen (Misses Devin and [Kenrick, were two out of five which 1 hat Board recommended to the favoraide consideration of the Government. It is probable that another one of the quintette will yet be chosen. It is also officially stated that Miss Rees, of Dunedin, whose selection was stated to be objected to by the Otago Board, on the ground that she does not possess a certificate, has had considerable experience in teaching, and is - in the opinion of the board of selectors admirably qualified for the work requiring to be done in South Africa. In order to remove apprehension it may be stated that the Secretary of State expressed a wish that the selection in New Zealand should not lie confined wholly to teachers employed in public elementary'schools. The Oddfellows’ Conference is still engaged in the discussion of the draft rules.
