FOOTBALL.
(To the Editor of the Times )
Su:,—l noticed in your paper the other morning that it was proposed by someone at tile Kugby Union meeting that another meeting be held to discuss the altering of the boundaries. All the cry is about City. Well, I was City last year, and will bo this year. What room have they to grumble ? We would certainly have made a better exhibition if we had had mc-n to keep the team together. Was there ever a stronger forward team put on the field in Gisborne
than we put on at first? We were a little weak in the back division. Get a good captain this year and City will do very well. Everyone seems of opinion that West End are too strong. This is not the case. They had a poor team to start with, but by constant training and rolling up to their matches they won the banner, which was a credit to them. Why break up a team like-that ? It would only take away the interest of football. There is no need to worry about Haiti. They will have a number of new men from the Freezing Works. If City players start complaining tell them to see how* many footballers are living in their district. They will find about six new* men, and men who know the game. I am not talking nonsense. Iluia, again, seem to be complaining be-
cause tliey *canuot get a regular team. Well, their district is a larger cue ; but, for all that, they have the greatest difficulty. They cannot depend on their men. They cannot walk about a mile and see all their men. No, they are all scattered. Whataupoko and Freezing Works players w-ould be better off playing for a town team. Should they be united to town districts there will be no country team at all. I daresay a good many will disagree with me, but that is only natural. Alter the districts an 1 you alter the interest. Each district has its supporters. Do the Union expect players to be humbugged about ? Suppose it were necessary to alter the districts (which I and a good many more do not think necessary at all), why was it not done a month ago ? In ’ other places football has started. In Gisborne we start in about a month. We have to interfere with cup matches in order to play representative matches. Why not start earlier, and get all cup i- matches over first. Wake up, Gisborne, a it change is not necessary,—l am, etc., CITVi
