CORONATION DAY.

PROBABLE OPENING OF RAILWAY, ARRANGEMENTS BY BOROUGH COUNCIL.. 'At the meeting of the Borough Council last night, the Mayor read .the following telegram, which he had received that afternoon from the Hon, J. Carroll John Town ley, Esq.-,-Mayor, Gisborne.. Your letter received on the subject Of the opening of our railway to Ormond at Coronation time. I have been in communication with the Hon. Mr Hall-Jones and Sir Joseph Ward on the subject, and I have urged that it should be so opened at that time. The occasion will be one most fitting in commemoration by our district of the Coronation of our King. I am pleased ,to inform you that both Ministers are favorable to the suggestion. Continuing, his Worship said nc thought they could depend on the railway being opened Coronation Day, and they should set up a committee to make arrangements for the celebration. (Though it was only a short time before the opening of Parliament, no doubt one or two Ministers would come up. He hoped that the County Council, Harbor Board, and all other local bodies would cordially enter into the movement. In the Old Country they had for mouths past been arranging for the Coronation celebrations. There was not a great deal of time now in which to prepare, practically only two months, the day being a bo Cr Whinray, the Mayor said that Mr Carroll had said that he would draw the Minister s attention to what was required. Cr Hepburn said that if it was any thing like the Nuhaka promises they •must not he too sure.
