By Telegraph —Press Asaoeiation. Wellington, last night. It is understood that Nos. 1 and 2 Service Corps ol Permanent Militia in the colony will shortly have tbeir designations changed. No. if which now• compr.ses the permanent militia and artiHery wi 1 be known as the Now Zealand Royal Ar- ■ tillerv No. 2, hitherto known as the torpedo corps, will be designated the New Zealand Boyal Engineers. Lieut.-Colonel Messenger, who at present commands the Permanent Militia in Wellington, will be appointed to tho command of the whole colony, under, of courso, the Commandant, and all recruits for both branches of tho sorvico arc to bo enlisted by him. It is stated that Mr McPherson, formerly chief engineer of the Shaw-SaviJJ Company’s liner Waiwcra, has been appointed engineer of the subminer Jessie Seddon. . -
