A SCHOOLMASTER’S JURISDICTION.

AUCKLAND, last night.

Magistrate Bush gave judgment today in tiie case of Thomas Gibb v. Ernest Walters-, master of the Hikutaia school, claim £2O for assault, viz., being thrashed for bathing with hi.s sisters and other girls. The headmaster had warned the boys and girls that- he would punish them if they were found bathing together, when separate bathing places in the river were provided. The Magistrate decided that the schoolmaster had no jurisdiction to administer punishment for an offence committed out of school hours. Judgment was given for complainant for £5 damages and £ls 5s costs.
