A SUDDEN DEATHS
v ' (Per Press Association), WELLINGTON, last night, Mrs Abercrombie, wife of Mr D- A. [Abercrombie, manager of the North .Queensland Insurance Company, died suddenly, to-day, DREDGING, The Kohikohi dredge returned 15oz foe 127 hours’ work, the cable. Sir Joseph Ward received a cable message from the electricians aboard .the Anglia, which is laying the cable 'between Norfolk Island and 'Fi]i, stating that the cable had been paid out lon 123 miles, and was going welL, FINING BOOKMAKERS, At the Magistrate’s Court to-day, (William Cowan and Edward bookmakers, were fined £5 and costs for frequenting Willis street for the purposes of betting, \ 1 A PRISONER’S ESCAPE. While a man named William Edward Burrows was awaiting his turn to appear before the S.M. this 'morn’ing pn ■{a charge of theft and forgery, te seized the opportunity .to bolt. It was believed he went into Government "Buildings, and a cordon of police was drawn around that place, and search ■made. Efforts to find him m the -■-building failed. It is now believed he - is loose in the city. RIFLE TEAM. The vacancy in the New Zealand lifle team for Bisley has been filled by the appointment of Color-Sergeant Oaky, of Taranaki.
