FUNERAL OF SIR ANDREW CLARKE.

The service took place at tlie Marylebone Church, those present including all the Agents-Gene-rai. A gun carriage bore the body to Paddington station, en route to Bath, where it was interred. The funeral of the late Mr Cecil Rhodes cvojted unparalleled manifestations of grief at Capetown. Troops lined the route to the Cathedral. Along the route dense crowds gathered. Dr. Jameson and the Premier (Sir Gordon Spriggs) were present. Included among the pail-bearers were Mr Rhodes’ brothers and representatives. Lord Milner and Sir Heley Hutchinson were amongst the mourners.

The procession included all the leading public men in South Africa, many members of the Afrikaader Bond, and members of the Afrikander Bond, and Tasmania.

The Archbishop of Capetown, in his address at the Cathedral, recognised ..Rhodes’ greatness. Three thousand natives lined the route to the grave at Matoppo Hill. The Indimas lament the loss of a great father.
