MANAWATU RAILWAY.
(Per Press Association), WELLINGTON, last night. The directors of the Manawatu Railway Company have received a letter from the Minister of Public Works, suggesting to meet a supposed difficulty pointed out by them that provision could be made in the agreement for the sale of the railway, indemnifying the shareholders from any supposed liability on account of their uncalled capital, With regard to debentures and intimating at the same time that if any of the debenture holders so desired they, could be paid off at par,
REMARKABLE SIGHT,
(Per Press Association.) THAMES, last night. A remarkable sight was witnessed yesterday, when thousands of black fish a species of whale, appeared in the Hauraki Gulf, and headed towards the rivers running into the southern bight. For over an hour a continuous stream of fish, some thirty feet long, were passing! It is expected that several will be stranded on the flats.
