NAPIER’S SANITATION.
PERIODICAL COURSE OF TYPHOID. By Telegraph—Press Association V Napier, last night. Tho Board of the Borough Council sat this evening as a Board of Health to consider the report of Dr. Finch, acting district health officer for Hawke’s Bay. In his report Dr. Finch states that Napier is now undergoing its periodical course of typhoid, and that although a searching investigation has been made, the absence of a common cause, and the fact of the annual recurrence of tho sickness shows it to be due to defective sanitation, and thi% opinion is confirmed by the fact that nearly all the cases reported have come from the flat parts of tho town and houses where the pan system is in force. He strongly advocated tho appointment of a sanitary export to inspect all plumbing work in connection with drainage and water closet connections under proper specifications, and an amendment of the by-laws dealing with tho same and with house ventilation. He also suggested the advisability of the establishment of a septic tank for the disposal of sewage. The question of the amendment of the by-laws in accordance with Dr. Finch’s report was left to bo dealt with by the Council, which had already decided upon tho appointment of an additional sanitary Inspector.
