MOONLIGHT CONCERT.
There was splendid weather for the moonlight concert last night in the beautiful grounds of the Misses Morice. There was a large attendance, and the grounds presented a picturesque scene,; with the great array of Chinese lanterns hanging from the trees and verandah. An excellent concert was given under the management of Mr A. J 4 Massey. The Misses Morice and the ladies committee spared no pains to make the gathering a success. Prominent among those who assisted the Misses Morice were Mrs Graham, the President of the 'vV.C.T.U., whose coffee rooms and library the funds were in aid of; Mesdames Spence, East, Scotter, Siddells, Paterson, Church, and Oxenham, and the Misses Skillicorn, many others also assisting, The programme was as follows -h> Overture, “ Nil Desperandum,” Gisborne Rifle Band ; song, “ Island of
Dreams,” Miss Bright ; cornet solo, operate selections, Mr Lionel Sherrifrj song, “ Wreck of the Hesperus,” Mr J. East; ’cello solo, “ Musette,” Mr H. D. Parker ; song, “In Old Madrid,” Mr J. Dalvrmple ; song, “ Flight of Ages,” Mr F. J. Teat. Selections on the bells were then given by Mrs Williams, Misses Morice (2) r and Thompson, and Mr Thompson. Miss Morice acted as conductor, and the sweet music was so highly appreciated that though encores were not the order of the evening, an exception had to be made in this case. At this stage His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Townley) made a few remarks, expressing pleasure at seeing so many present, and commending the object, specially mentioning Miss Morice, who had gone to great trouble in the mak-
ing of the arrangements. He said that on the previous evening it was feared that the gathering must be abandoned but the weather had turned out gloriously, and they could not have had a better night for a moonlight concert. The second part of the programme opened with a selection, “ The Bohemian Girl,” by the Rifle Band, which was under the able conductors hip of Mr McKillop. Then Miss Heanyy-ang ; - j “ Once ” ; song, “ Gondola Dreams,” :"j Mr Barlow, with violin obligato by j 1 Mr A. J. Massey ; cornet solo, “ The ) j Thorn,” Mr J Chrisp ; song, “The '{} Link Divine,” Miss Gray, with violin II obligato by Mr Lyttelton.
