VALUE OF EXPORTS.

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE TO BE CONSULTED. [By Telegraph—Pre33 Association.] Wellington, last night. In reply to a representation at the recent Conference of Chambers of Commerce,' as to tiro unreliable character of tho valuations of exports, particularly wool, the Customs Department states that although it has no reason to bolievo the valuation of exports is seriously at fault, the Minister has no objection to the suggestion of tho Conference that the Com- i mitteo of the local Chambers be consulted as to the average valuo of tho principal ‘ exports each quarter. Accordingly tho Collectors of Customs arc in future to forward their local Chamber of Commerce a quarterly statement of the quantity of tho r i principal exports, with the average price and total declared value, with the object ■; of allowing the Chambor to express its j view as to its correctness.
