COAST CARNIVAL.

PROCEEDINGS AT TOKOMARU. (Special to Times.) Tokomaru, last night. The festivities commenced at Tolago on Monday were continued at Tokomaru today, with races and a sheep dog trial. The tide somewhat interfered with the races, and three events were run off in the morning, and the remainder of the programme was completed after four in the afternoon, the meeting being a very successful one. The results were as follows: Maiden Plate : Signet 1, Meni 2, Wildfire 3. There were six starters, Signet winning easily. Betting 6to 1 Signet. Flying: Pistol Grip 1, A.B.N. 2, Maori Boy 3. This was a good race, there being seven starters. Betting, even money A.8.N., 4 to 1 Pistol Grip. Scurry: Mangamahaki 1, Silver Van 2, Kate 3. A good race, won by two lengths. Betting, Bto 1 Mangamahaki. District Handicap: Meni 1, Privateer 2, } Maori Boy 3. Won by a couple of lengths. Betting, even money Priva'-'-r, 3 to 1 Meni.

Tokomaru Handicap: A.B.N. i, ’Malcolm 2, Cronje 3. Won by two lengths, ! Six starters. Betting, even money A.8.N., f 2 to 1 Malcolm.

Farewell Handicap: Daphne Isles 1, Notoriety 2, Pistol Grip 4. Betting, even money Pistol Grip, 8 to 1 Daphne Isles.

ANNUAL DOG TRIAL.

The Waiapu Sheep Trial Club’s seventh annual test commenced yesterday on Mr Busby’s property. Mr William Oates, the secretary and treasurer, spared no pains to make the gathering a success, and was highly complimented on the excellent arrangements made. Mr W. D. S. Macdonald, the President, gave every assistance, as did the VicePresidents, Messrs Bnrdett, Cottrell, Murphy, Sherwood, Kemp, A. B. Williams, T. S. Williams, F. Williams, and the other officers. Mr E. R. Murphy acted as time-keeper, and the stewards were: Messrs W. Saddler, H. Warner, J. Green, H. Ford, W. Duff, Toi Hapu, P. Waite, and Rewai te Paa Itakau. The Committee were: Messrs K. S. Williams, D. Duff, A. Warburton, E. Wallis, G. J. Scott, and B. Merritt, Mr C- W. Davis being judge. The results were Class 1., hunt away : Mr J. Mclntosh’s Dick, 30 points, 1; Mr H. Warner’s Don, 27 points, 2; Mr B. Merritt’s York/' 16 points, 3 ; Mr E. Wallis’s Bob, 13 points, 4. Class 11. had not finished when the adjournment to next day was made, but from the work so far the indications are that Dick will win.
