EDUCATION BOARD.

Napier, last night.
At the meeting of tho Education Board Gisborne’s communication was received, intimating the committee’s relative basis of carrying on the District High School. Makauri’s application for a teacher's residence and for an addition to the school was held over, Bending consideration of a report by Mr McLernon and tho Inspector on the wants of the Gisborne district. Half time schools are to be established at the Motu and Whakarau, and Miss King was appointed teacher.
Ormond’s offer to contribute £25 towards the erection of teacher’s residence was deferred, the tender being too high. Application for repairs was referred to Mr Quigley for a report. Te Karaka’s application for a mistress was held over till the end of the present quarter, the 31st inst. Tola go Bay : Tenders are to be oalled for enlarging the school.
Mr Bolton is to be sent to Fraßertown to fill the vacancy caused by the teacher resigning after being a month in tho position. The annual election of committees was fixed for Monday, 28th April.
A eireular is to be sent to all headteachers pointing out their responsibility under tho now Act in connection with the instructions of pupil teachers.
A lengthy report from Mr McLernon and the Inspector, Mr Hill, was presented on the educational requirements of Gisborne district, and Mr McLernon spoke strongly in support of its claim for additional school accommodation. It was resolved that two acres and a half at Mangapapa be purchased as a school site, at a price not exceeding £6O per acre, and that plans bo prepared for the school to accommodate 100 pupils. Mr McLernon reported that Captain Tucker had, in conversation with the Inspector, offered to give an acre for a school opposite the ridge of DeLautour road. It was resolved that Captain Tucker be asked to put the offer in writing. It was resolved that an application be made to Government for an additional grant to enable the Board to erect buildings urgently needed throughout the Hawke’s Bay district. It was decided, at the request of the Department, to receive applications from persons desirous of being appointed teachers in the concentration camps in Sonth Africa.
