MISSION SCHOONER, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The Melanesian Mission schooner Southern Cross will sail on Thursday for Norfolk Island, with the now master, Captain Hammond, in command. Among the passengers will he Archdeacon Wright, of Nelson, who is about to take up work among the Norfolk Islanders ; also Messrs it. G. Coates and C. E. Fox, who are about to begin missionary work in the Islands, and Messrs G. and J. Palmer, sons of tho late Archdeacon Palmer, who are going to Norfolk Island on private business. PRIZE ESSAY. Tho Governor’s prize given through the New Zealand Literary and Historical Association, for the best essay on the French revolution and its effects on the English people, has been awarded to E. liempe, of Cambridge, Waikato.
