The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVER? MORNING. GISBORNE, MARCH 18, 1902. THE NEW DREDGE.
It is hoped that something will be settled this afternoon in regard to the dredge John Townley. The dredge has been a source of worry to the Harbor Board and to the public for many months past. It was not completed until twelve months after the time stipulated, and while the work proceeded there was much reason to believe that it was only being done in fits and starts, and that the show of energy that was made when a representative of the Board, was in the vicinity of the yard was not made at other times. However that may be, the fact remains that the dredge having come to hand has not yet given satisfaction. Mr Anderson has arrived in Gisborne; he is desirous of meeting the views of the Board in the matter, and it is to be hoped that in a short time all will be working smoothly. But the Board should give Mr Anderson plainly to understand that it is for his firm and not for the Board to ensure satisfaction. The summer weather has now practically been lost, and the Board lias in many ways already had to submit to much inconvenience and expense,.
