By Telegraph—Press Association.

Auckland, last night. The inquiry into the charges made by Mr G. J. Mcknight against several officers in the Lands and Survey Department at Auckland was opened before Mr Thomas Hutchison, S.M., to-day. The gist o the charges was that McKuight was in September, 1899, appointed Assistant Boad Inspector to Mr G. G. Menzies, at Raweno, Hokianga, by the Hon. HallJones, but was harassed and hunted out of his billet to make way for Mr A. Menzies, a brother to Mr G. G. Menzies. He stated he had been wrongfully dismissed without cause and without explanation. After each of the officers interested had been served with a copy of the charges, the proceedings were adjourned till next Tuesday.
