CRICKET.

ENGLISHMEN v. BROKEN HILL.

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, March 11. In the match Englishmen v. Broken Hill Eighteen, Maelaren, Barnes, and Hayward stood out. The Englishmen made 173. Braund 27, Garnett 33, and Tyldesley (not ouj 47 were the chief scorers. The local team havo lost four* teen wickets for 119. Canst (not out) 54 is the principal scorer.

We are pleased to learn that the Gisborne cricketers intend returning the visit the players of Tolago made them a couple of seasons ago. The trip to Tolago is about ns pleasant a one as tho heart of a cricketer could desire. The Tolago men have thoroughly mastered tho art of entertaining, the trip along the Coast affords some excellent scenery to men who have been tied to the stool and desk for months, and there is tho certainty that a keen game will bo played at the Tolago end of tho journey. Principally through the exertions of Mr W. McOredie, of the United Club, the following team has been got together to make the trip to Tolago on Friday afternoon next, and playing the East Coast eleven on the following day: Dodd, Seymour, Hill, Howard, Barlow, McCredie (2). Ferris, Porter, G. C. Johnstone, and Sheridan. This is certainly the strongest Gisborne eleven which has ever made the trip up tho Coast, and may win back the laurels lost by tho last team that visited Tolago, which suffered defeat at the hands of the Coast men by an in-

nings and some runs. The Coast road is • in splendid order for travelling just now, and the Gisborne men should have a most enjoyable trip.
