The Queen’s Friend.
London, Jan. 18.
The devoted affection of Queen Alexandra and her secretary, tho Hon. Charlotte Knollys, for ono another, has often been remarked upon by thoso who know of it as something not only rare, but very charming, for Miss Knollys. is outside of tbs royal caste. Miss Knollys comes from one of the oldest families in tho Kingdom, though, one whoso connection with tho court began as long ago as tho days of Edward the Black Prince. Another odd circumstance is that her brother, Sir Francis Knollys, occupies in the King’s household tho same position that she does in tho Queen’s —that of private secretary. It was more than twenty years ago that Miss Knollys entered the then Princess of Wales’s household, and her affection and vigilance have never relaxed for an instant.
It is an open secret that the court remained in London over Christmas mainly because for tho first time for many years Miss Knollys was incapacitated from accompanying her royal mistress to the couutry, and the Queen, whose own cold was slight, did not care to leave her friend ill and lonely to spend the Christmas days in solitude.
