AUCKLAND NEWS.
ROYAL COMMISSION. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, last night. The Royal Commission on Native Affairs, Messrs 11. G. Seth-Smilh, A. L. D. Fraser, M.11.R., and Hone Heke, M.H.R., have gone to CamIn id ge.
PREMIER’S DEPARTURE. The Mayor received the following telegram from the Premier with reference to the citizens’ farewell :—“ I will he in Auckland for the departure oi the Ninth Contingent on the 19th inst. Leaving Auckland on the 21st. Better say good-bye then, as it is impossible to fix the port oi departure, as it all depends on the date on which ciivumstances will permit me to leave.” The Mayor replied, suggesting that, the farewell should lake place on the 19th inst., after the departure of the Ninth Contingent, TROOPER CONSADINE. Mrs Consadine, mother of Trooper John Consadine, of the Seventh Contingent, formerly of Auckland, has received a letter from the Roman Catholic chaplain at Volksrust, staling that the trooper, who was wounded on the f.dth December, was doing as well as could be expected. He had been in Gmeral Plmner’s column, and was wounded in the spine. The writer stated that the trooper was very paUenl. He was unable to move out of bed, his legs being quite paralysed. It, is feared ‘it is a very serious, though probably lingering, case.
