ARRANGEMENTS BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND COMPANIES.

With regard to the inspection of passengers subsequent to their landing from ships liable to quarantine, the Health Department Mates that the ..gents for the Union, Huddart-Parker. and Tvser lines, and the local agents ■for the troopships, Devon an! Kent, have as.sem.ed to an agreement whicn the Department considers a lair one. The passengers are to be allowed Lo land after ordinary medical inspection, it being compulsory upon them ,to report to the medical officers _as required by the Health authorities, the shipping companies to pay a maximum fee of £IOO for die reports of these medical officers, and should the expense be less than inis amount, tne difference shall be refunded to the shipping companies, the shipping companies to be entirely treed of 'erponsihility in connection with the reporting of passengers after their landing, in consideration of this payment of £IOO. ,'J’he crews of vessels are to l.c examin.eii by the Health Officers at Auckland, Gisborne, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton Port Chalmers, Dunedin, and Bluff free of charge to the shipping l x ,par t _lient has about 2000 doses of Haffkine’s prophylactic in hand.
