WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
(Per Press Association)^ DUNEDIN, last night. Yesterday the city, suburban, and country pulpits were supplied with ministers attending the conference. President Murray preached at Trinity Church in the forenoon with great acceptance. The afternoon service was taken by the Rev. Mr Beckett, an ordained minister in full connection. The Rev. Mr Garland delivered the ordination charge. The evening service was conducteu by Dr. Morley. There was ■ a large congregation, and in the course of an impressive service feeling reference was made to tiie disaster to the Seventh Contingent. The hymn, When our hearts are bowed with woe ” was sung. Special prayers were offered for the bereaved relatives. The Dead march was played. This morning, in ministerial session reports on probationers-’ examinations were dealt with. The Revs. Cook, Oxbrow, and Eaton passed their respective years. It was decided to appoint Student Belton to circuit work., Students Patchett, Goodbehere, Jas.' Mcßean, and It. Anderson continue further training at Prince Albert College, Auckland. Student Reid is continued on the President’s reserve list. Several promising young men were Irefore the conference as candidates for the Ministry. Messrs Copeland and Roget were accepted. The remaining, cases were deferred. At a later stage in the afternoon business was resumed. Representative session matters relating to the connuxional secretaryship occupied first attention. Dr Morley moved that it be a con-
tinual office, and that the appointment bo made of, successor. He reviewed the story and work of the Department, showing the successful results obtained. He urged on every ground the maintaining of an office so seriously, affecting the interests of the Church. Mr Daniells seconded the motion. Discussion ensued until the afternoon ad;ournment. The debate will be resumed to-morrow morning. The special ministerial session was immediately resumed. Applications from candidates for the ministry were considered. Messrs Tylee and Snadden were received for training, and Mr
Thomas was received for circuit work. Application is to be made to Victoria for Messrs Blair and Fitzgerald for home mission work. There' was a meeting this evening in connection with foreign missions. An address was delivered by the Rev. President, Mr Bull, Mr Laws, and Mr Grayburn. 't
