RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
WEATHER UNFAVORABLE FOR GOOD SHOOTING. (By Telegraph—l’ress Association.) Trcntham, last night. The first annual meeting of the Now Zealand Defence Forces’ Rille Association opened at Trcntham this morning. It was raining heavily, and tiring was postponed till one o’clock. Thero was no opening ceremony. There are 20S competitors, and it is expected another 20 will come. Among tho competitors present are Champion Wilson (Wcodville), exCharnpion King (Oamaru), W. Ballinger, A. Ballinger, and Williams (Wellington), Okcy (Taranaki), Kruse (Wanganui), Wakelin (Christchurch), and Cliurtou (Wanganui). Tho majority are living in camp. The officer in charge is LieutonantColonel Sommcrville.
The weather was unfavorable for good shooting, and it was raining tho wholo time. The first range of tho Wilson Match of 200 yards (7 shots) was completed this afternoon, but will not count for tho belt, IV. Ballinger (Petone), King (Oamaru), Irvine (Wuimea), Laverty (Christchurch), Anderson (Wanganui), Donigan (Gore), Jeffery (Nelson) made 28 each; Scarle (Caversham), Shorratt (Auckland), Cullen (Napier), Nelson (Woodville), Harding (Blenheim), Mole (Napier), Witton (Mauricovillo) made 27 each.
