STRIKES ON THE ROCKS
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. The Northern S.S. Company’s steamer Paeroa, when entering Whakatane Heads, with passengers, at six o’clock yesterday morning, broke her steering gear, and ran on the rocks, striking amidships. After an anxious time, the incoming tide floatedher off. One of her boiler tubes burst.. and the boiler shifted. Most of the pas--sengers were landed in an open boat. Tivc steamer is now beached.
