PRECAUTIONS AGAINST SMALLTON. 3 [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. P The steamer Wakanui, from Loudon, j o via the Cape and Hobart, anchored in the ! p stream this morning. Owing to a case of o smallpox having occurred on the vessel C prior to her arrival at Hobart, particulars v of which were given by cable a few days ago, special precautions are being taken by the Health Department. The Health Officer is at present aboard, and all pas- 1 sengers will probably be vaccinated before being permitted to land. SWIMMING CONTESTS. J The Australian champion swimmers 1 gave an exhibition at the Swimming 1 Sports yesterday. They also competed in the Invitation race, in which M. Champion, of Wellington, also swam. The result was a dead heat between Lane, ‘ Cavil!, and M. Champion, the 100 yards being covered in 02 4-5 secs. Champion won the 100 yards inter-club race.
