There have been many collisions with the military, and twenty strikers nave been killed, aud a hundred wounded. In one affray a striker fatally stabbed a lieutenant, ana was immediately shot. Towards night tranquility was restored in the city.

Mr Bergl, interviewed with regard to (he meat contracts, said that ho ignored the undertaking to amalgamate with any existing firms supplying South Africa with meat. While the price of colonial meat was such as would leave a profit, supplies would be drawn from the colonies.
