A FOILED DIVORCE.
Omaha, Neb., Dec. 28. A momentary faintness which seized his chief witness proved the undoing of James Adamscn in his suit for divorce against his wife, Annie, and Adamson is still a married man. The witness was Mrs C. E. Solston, who was proprietress of the flat in which the Adamsons’ brief married life was passed.
Mrs Adamson was on intimate terms with her landlady and the women spent much of their time together. A slight misunderstanding grew into an open breach, however, and when Adamson sought to secure & divorce he was able to count upon the landlady as his star witness. Accordingly Mrs Adamson sat in -the I court-room within three feet of Mrs | Solston while the landlady dissected her ' lodger’s character without mercy. She had laid bare the minor weaknesses and was passing on to more grave disclosures upon which Adamson relied for divorce When she lurched forward in her chair and would have fallen had not Mrs Adamson caught her. The defendant raised the fainting woman in her arms and moistened the white forehead with water with all the tenderness of their old friendship. When the witness opened her eyes and saw the anxious face above her, she was conscience-smitten. “ Oh, Annie 1 What have I been saying about you ? ” she exclaimed. Mrs Solston recovered, but her memory suddenly weakened. She could recall nothing further to the defendant’s | disadvantage and the divorce was denied;'
