The quartette were sent on their journey to an even start, and when they settled down into stride Lady Raven was slightly in front of Wilson, with Red Lancer third, and Tauhei last. There was no change as they raced pas the avenue, but at the back of§ the courso Wilson had crept up to within half a length of Lady Raven, whilst Red Lancer was only a length away. A sheet would have covered the four as they rounded the home turn, and the victory of Tauhei was proclaimed from every part of the grandstand. For a time the grey mare flattered the hopes of her many backers, and as she was on torms with Wilson at the distance, her victory seemed assured. The Dauphin gelding, however, was not to be denied, and gamely responding to the call of Griffiths, drew away from Tauhei and won by a couple of lengths. METROPOLITAN MEETING. At the last meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club committee the Dannevirke Jockey Club wrote asking the committee to rule as regarding the eligibility of the two horses that comneted in the hurdle race at the Dannevirke meeting on the Bth January. It was resolved the the question was one for the Dannevirke Jockey Club to decide, the Metropolitan Committee being a court of appeal to which the other parties to the case could refer if they so wished.

The Waipawa County Racing Clulj reported that T. Connop, jockey, had met with an accident during their meeting, and forwarding an account for express fare to Waipukurau hospital.—Resolved that £2 be paid. It was also resolved to write to the Waipawa Club as to the state Connop was in when allowed to ride. An application to remove the disqualification from horses running at Karaka an unregistered meeting was refused.

The following programmes were approved :—Pakarae Jockey Club, 20th February ; Woodville District Jockey Club, 26th and 27th February ; Waiuukurau Jockey Club, 31st March ; Tokomaru Bay Jockey Club, 19th March ; Waipiro Racing Club, 21st March, the latter subject to certain alterations.
