At a time when much is heard of the various excellences of different kinds of paving for our streets, and when municipal authorities have a great difiiculty m deciding which is best suited to the roads under their supervision, any fresh light upon the subject may bo regarded as useful. A singular result of using creosoted wood blocks for paving purposes is reported from Surrey. The fish m the liiver AVandle, near Peddiugton Park, were found to be poisoned, and it is alleged that ihp mischief has been traced to the washings, after heavy rains, from the streets of the neighbouring towns of Croydon where creosoted wood blocks are m use. It is by no means proved that the source of t'be poison is as alleged ; and we should have thought that, considering the wide use of creosoted wood on ordinal} roads and railways, the dauger to fish, if it exists, would have proclaimed itself !ono a"0. However, the matter will now bo sifted, for it is said that an aggrieved property owner is taking legal proceedings to abate the nuisance.
