TO-DAY’S RACES. NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS,

[By Early Bird.]

Tho meeting will be continued to-day, and as very fair acceptances have been received there should bo a large attendance. The programme opens with the Hurdle Race, for which there are four likely starters. Tirea is top-weight with tho substantial impost of 12.12, but tho Kaiwhaka gelding may nevertheless be relied upon to run a good race. He may meet with most opposition from Sylvanus. My selection is:

Tirea 1 Sylvanus 2 Cronje 8 For the County Stakes thero are five engaged, and a good race should result. Papatu showed such poor form yesterday that even with twelve pounds less to carry I do not favor his chance. Craftsman with 8.7 reads well, as also does Yathek 7.8, and A.B.N. 6.9. The placed division may be as follows :

Craftsman 1 A.B.N 2 Papatu 3 Tho Hack Flat has a large field of thirteen, Papatu and Kowhete heading the list with 8.10. The latter should run well, and whatever beats her should win. Medallious has much to recommend him, and with the handy impost of 7.5 must be given a great chance. Of the lighter weights Tryphenaand Waionui may effect a surprise. I shall venture the following: Tryphena or Kowhete ... 1 Medallious 2 Pouataniwha... ... ... 3

The Electric Handicap, of five furlongs, has a field of five. The Miner, with 8.9, has winning form to recommend him, but at the weights the opposition appears too good. .Rosiphele is nicely treated with 7.11, as also are Victoria Cross, Lady Raven, and Geologist. The placed division may be: Victoria Cross 1 Lady Raven 2 Rosiphele 3

For the Second Welter there are fifteen engaged, and a good field should see the post. Tirea, with the heavy impost of 12.0, is first on the list, followed by Geologist with 11.4, and Paria with 10.4. Of tho three I like Paria, and the Albert gelding should give a good aeeouut of himsolf. Craftsman, Medallious, Mechanic, and A.B.N. aro the pick of the lighter weights. I shall select them in the following order: —

Paria ... ... ... ... 1 Kowhete 2 A.8.N.... 3 The Grandstand Handicap has a field of four, and all good ones. Tauhei had very bad luck yesterday in running two seconds, but may be expected to show up better to-day. Wilson, with 8.6, must have a great chance, as also must Lady Baven and Bed Lancer. My selection is : Tauhei ... ... ... 1 Wilson 2 Bed Lancer 3 The Disposal Stakes should go to Pourere, and the Final Handicap to The Miner.
