THE PREMIER.

PUBLIC TESTIMONIAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. A meeting was held here this afternoon for the purpose of arranging some public recognition of the Premier’s spirited action in despatching contingents to South Africa. There was a large attendance, including Bishop Julius and a number of prominent citizens, and the proceedings were most enthusiastic. The general feeling was that a presentation should bs made to Mr Seddon from tho whole of the colony before his departure for the coronation ceremonies, and a resolution to this effect, moved by Mr T. W. Stringer and seconded by Mr G. G. Stead, was carried unanimously. An influential committee, with the Mayor as chairman, was appointed to carry put the proposal, and the committee is now communicating with other centres.
