CATTLE STEALING.

(Special to Times.) Wellington, last night. In a case of cattle stealing] which came before him, the Chief Justice expressed the opinion that the check upon cattle was now imperfect. It should be made compulsory for a register to bo kept of all cattle transactions in each district, so that there would be a proper check. The lack of such a record led to some persons taking other persons’ stock. It would be well for Parliament to take steps in the matter.
