Charges Against Scheepers.
The Bloemfontein Post gives the following completo list of the charges preferred against Scheepers Ist Charge.—Murder, in that ho, at or near Secretaris Kraal, Murrnysburg, district, in the month of January, 1901, killed and murdered Jacob Fillis and Kiedo, natives, British subjects. 2nd Charge.—Murder, in that ho, at or near Brakwater, Willowmore district, on or about the 18th January, 1901, killed and murdered one Moyewlca, a nativo policeman of the Cape Colony. 3rd Charge.—Murder, in that he, at or near Uilkomst, Jansenvillo district, on or about the 17th March, 1901, killed and murdered ono Christian, a nativo, a British subject. 4th Charge,—Murder, in that he, at or near Booiklip, Steytlerville district, on or about the 7th August, 1901, killed and murdered one James, a nativo, a British subject. sth Charge,—Murder, in that he, at or near Wildepaardefontoin, Montague district, on or about the sth September, 1901, killed and murdered Jan Jacpan and Johannes Booy, natives, British subjeets. 6th Charge,—Murder, in that he, at or near De Fontein, Worcester district, on or about 7th September, 1901, killed and murdered one John Kennedy, a native, a British subject. 7th Charge,—Murder, in that he, at or near Kruis River, Oudtshoorn district, on or about 26th September, 1901, killed and murdered one Zederas, alias Jacobus Hermanns, a native, a British subject. Bth Charge. Attempted murder, in that he, at or near Marais Siding, Aberdeen district, on or about the 21st May, 1901, fired on a passenger train, and wounded one H. Wassman, a British subject. 9th Charge.—A barbarous act contrary to the customs of war, in that he,. at or near Ziokocgat, Grand Itcinet district, on or about 16th March, 1901, after having made prisoners of war of Pieter Booysen, John van Jonßnrgh, Portlock Bubidge and Albert van den Burgh, British subjects, placed them in the firing lino during an engagement with the British forces, thereby endangering their lives. 10th Charge.—A barbarous act contrary to the customs of war, in that he, in the month of March, 1901, after having made prisoners of war of Pieter Booysen, John van den Burgh, Portlock Bubidge, and Albert van den Burgh, British subjects, grossly illtreated them by driving them on foot with his commando, which was mounted, and keeping them in a state of starvation. 11th Charge.—Disgraceful conduct of a cruel kind, in that he, at or near Yredenburg, Graaff Beinet district, in the month of April, 1901, brutally flogged one Pieter Huggett, a British subject. 12tli Charge.—Disgraceful conduct of a cruel kind, in that ho, at or near 3pitzkop, Cradock district, on or about the 10th May, 1901, brutally Hogged ono Swartbooni Goxo, a native, a British subject. loth Charge.—Disgraceful conduct of a cruel kind, in that he, at or near Biiffelsfontein, Oudtshoorn district, on or about 3rd October, 1901, brutally flogged one Asanhuizen, a native, a British subject. 14th Charge.—Destroying railways, in that he, at or near Marais Siding, Aberdeen district, on or about 17th March, blew up the railway, thereby endangering the lives of His Majesty’s subjects. 15th Charge.—Train wrecking, in that ho, at or near Marais Siding, Aberdeen district, on or about the 21st May, 1901, wrecked and burned a passenger train. 16th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Uitkomst, Graff Beinet district, on or about the loth March, 1901, burnt the homestead of one Meredith, a British subject. 17th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Uitkomst, Jansenville district, on or about 19th March, 1901, burnt the homestead of one Berrington, a British subject. 18th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Stockpale, Somerset Fast district, on or about 21st April, 1901, burnt the homestead of one Moolman, a British subject.
19th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Biesjes Poort, Beaufort West district, in the month of July, 1901, burnt the goodsshed of the railway station. ‘2oth Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Maraysburg, on or about the 6th July, 1901, burnt a house and store, the property of one Shanvood, a British subject. 21st Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Maraysburg, on or about the 6th July, 1901, burnt a house, the property of one Innes, a British subject. 22nd Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Vleiplaate, Murraysburg district, on or about the Bth July, 1901, burnt the homestead of the Hon. A. J. Herholdt, M.L.C., a British subject. 23rd Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Aberdeen road, Aberdeen district, on or about 12th July, 1901, burnt the railway station and adjacent buildings, occupied by one -Brooks, a British subject. 24th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Fontein Plaats, Aberdeen district, on or about 27th July, 1901, burnt the homestead of ono Babie, a British subject.
25th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Uitkvk, Aberdeen district, on or about the 27th July, 1901, burnt the homestead of ono Van der Merwe, a British subject. 26th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Glendoone, Jansenville district, on or about the sth August, 1901, burnt the homestead of one S. J- Featberstone, a British subject. 27th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Featherstonehaugh, Willowmore district, on or about sth August, 1901, burnt the homestead of one D. Featberstone, a British subject. 28th Charge.— Arson, in that he, at Misgund, Uniondale district, on or about the 18th August, 1901, burnt the homestead of one Stone, a British subject. 29th Charge.—Arson, in that he, at Misgund, Uniondale district, on or about the 18th August, 1901, burnt the homestead of ono Van Niekerk, a British subject. 3Oth Charge—Arson, in that he, at Brand Kiver, distriot of Riversdale, on or about the 30th September, 1901
