| JNew South Wales has up to the present sent away troops to the number of nearly 5000, at a cost to the State of about .£400,000, in addition to the £50,000 contributed by the public towards the Bushmen’s Contingent. The arrangements for the despatch of these troops were carried out before the consummation of federation. A -suicide of a highly sensational character was committed at Bnrbane recently. A young woman named Careen Margaritta Jorgensen, aged 22 years, jumped irom Victoria br'dge, and was drowned. The girl was the daughter of a cab-driver residing in the west end. She left home two days previously, and her father had been searching tor her. He was told she was on the bridge, and he went there. The girl saw him, and she climbed over tne railing.
