CHRISTCHURCH, lasb night. The Premier received a deputation this morning in regard to the proposal to establish a depot for Boer priscnicis at the Chathams. In reply, he stated he did not look or. the proposal with favor, and said he thought the Boers were quite near enough. He did not think it would be received with favor by the Imperial Government. His own idea was that New Guinea would be a suitable place to establish a depot. It was true the Imperial Government had asked New Zealand if they would favorably entertain a proposal to send Boer prisoners to Stewart’s Island, but the Government, taking local matters into consideration, came to the conclusion it was not advisable. He undertoos to place the subject brought up by, the deputation before the Cabinet.
